I believe children have a reason for what they do, and I take each challenging situation case by case. If they're struggling in class it may be because they had a rough night, didn't eat enough breakfast, have something going on in their lives that's causing stress or just have emotions that feel big like the rest of us. I do my best to provide a safe place for children to express emotions and to feel heard and loved. I find that children often respond well to kind words and patience. I make an effort to communicate with parents to get insights into how to best support their children and appreciate feedback from them because they know their children best! I also believe in natural consequences, such as: if you're using the art supplies as weapons, you'll lose the privilege of using them. But generally children have done well in my class and find it to be a safe, happy place.
1. The most important precaution will be to keep sick kids home. If I or any of my family members have symptoms, I will be cancelling class. Please keep your child home if he/she or any of his/her family members have symptoms of COVID. If a child shows up in class and appears sick, I will ask you to pick them up.
2. The students will wash their hands when they come into class, before they prepare and eat food, and after using the bathroom.
3. I will NOT be wearing a mask, nor requiring masks from my students. We will not be social distancing in class.
4. I will be very willing to work with you and understanding of your concerns! I hope that you'll feel comfortable approaching me with questions or concerns.
